I spent most of my time in Development mode, which is set on a giant board game analogue of Jabberwock Island. The Monomicoin machine guarantees at least the top-two tiers if you don’t get a Hype Card (a skill-boosting card for your characters) or a gift (a stat-boosting item that’s consumed on use) instead. The three different gacha machines all have different rates, and all of them guarantee different ranks of cards. That means that there’s a random chance to get the character you want. I want to touch on the School Store first because you use an in-game gacha system to unlock characters using these coins. Playing through both of these nets you Monocoins and Monomicoins, which you can spend in the School Store. The second is Battle mode, a huge tower where you can bring a party of characters to fight in endless RPG battles.

Not everyone is present (fans of Ultra Despair Girls and the Danganronpa 3 anime might be a bit disappointed), but at the very least, all of the students from the three main killing games are playable. This allows you to play through a board game with your favourite Danganronpa characters from all four games. First is Development mode, which is the bulk of the game and a hugely-expanded version of Danganronpa V3‘s Ultimate Talent Development Plan. Instead, the students of Hope’s Peak Academy from the three main games and spin-off are going on a virtual vacation to help hone their ‘Ultimate’ talents.Īn anniversary celebration for the series, Danganronpa S has two main modes. But in Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp, there is no killing game.

These games gained a following not only for their wackiness but for commentary on society and exploration of Hope and Despair.

This shows that Kokichi has a minimum level of respect for Kaito, and that Kaito recognizes Kokichi as someone who could have (and tried to) end the game. The Danganronpa series wouldn’t be what it is today - ten years later - without its magenta-splattered marketing, its colourful characters, and its penchant for executing your favourites in the most brutal, heartbreaking ways. At the same time, Kokichi was confident that Kaito would follow through with the plan, mentioning how Kaito “wasn’t boring” before his death. Part of the reason Kaito agreed to help is because Maki would become the culprit if he refused, but also because he thought he’d be able to end the killing game with that plan. To add to this, Kaito agreed with Kokichi’s plan to end the killing game. This goes on to symbolize the nature of their relationship, and how they balance eachother out.

Kaito rallied others together while Kokichi took action alone, essentially representing both cooperation and a lack of working together. Truthfully, both of their goals aligned from the start of the killing game, but the way each of them tried to turn their goal into reality were different from what the other had in mind.

Kaito and Kokichi are often at odds throughout the majority of Killing Harmony (mainly because Kokichi played a villainous role while Kaito led the others as a more heroic character), but there’s more to how they see eachother than their trivial antics and what’s said on the surface. What matters is whether there’s any malice behind ‘em.” ”We’re all just people, y’know? Of course we’re gonna have some secrets.
